Courses on ethics are currently taught in the College, Darden, and the Engineering School. There is also the Institute for Practical Ethics and Public Life. While laudable, ethics is rarely conceptualized and practiced in a global context. How might we leverage each discipline’s expertise to offer global ethics education that can account for this much needed innovation in the curriculum. This group aims to identify a core-set of faculty interested in asking questions related to what is global citizenship, what are global ethics and ethics of globalization, and what language is used across the University to advance ethical training. This will enable cross-disciplinary understanding and capacity building on global ethics pedagogy. Proposed activities include Networking Lunch Seminars to invite faculty from different disciplines to share how they conceptualize “global ethics” in their research and teaching, ranging in topics from bioethics, military ethics, business ethics, climate change, artificial intelligence and ethics, etc. Proposed outcomes include planning further research and curriculum developments.
